Although the use of jam in a cocktail is not a new invention, it is little known. Recently, there has been a movement to use jams, jellies, and marmalades to sweeten and flavor mixed drinks. The jam adds complexity and a layer of flavor that you otherwise cannot achieve from a liqueur. Batch-33 jams and marmalades are well adapted to such use.
Here are some guidelines: Strawberry, peach, and rhubarb jams all work well with whiskey-based cocktails; vodka likes mixed berry, blackberry, or raspberry jams; and gin matches up with apricot jam or marmalades. Lime marmalade in tequila is fantastic and Lemon marmalade in a Tom Collins is layer upon layer of goodness.
Just shake, strain, and serve!
